Continental Signals has no user accounts, no advertising, and no third-party tracking pixels or analytics scripts embedded in these pages. We don't build a profile of you.

Your English / French choice is stored in your browser's localStorage under the key cs-lang. It never leaves your device. Clear your site data to remove it.

When you click "Use my location" on a hazard page, your browser asks your permission and, if granted, sends your latitude and longitude to our server so we can query the public NWS point-alerts endpoint for your area. Your coordinates are used only for that lookup and are not stored, logged to a database, or shared with third parties. Deny the permission prompt to opt out — the rest of the site works without it.

When you click "Explain in plain language," the alert's public text (event type, area, headline, severity, effective / expires times) is sent to a large language model via a third-party AI gateway to produce a plain-language summary. No personal information about you is included in that request. AI output may be inaccurate; always defer to the official alert.

Like most websites, our hosting provider records standard request logs (IP address, user agent, timestamp, requested URL) for operational and abuse-prevention purposes. These logs are retained for a short period and are not combined with any other data about you.

Pages link to official sources such as weather.gov, weather.gc.ca, and NASA FIRMS. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we don't control.
